Your washer and dryer are a luxury that you take for granted and when something goes wrong...it can seem disastrous!
Nearly one-quarter of all the water used in the U.S. is from washing items in the washing machine. Those machines we rely on work very hard and sometimes end up needing washer repair service.
It's never an ideal situation to be without your washing machine especially if you're the type that throws in a load every day but there are some things to watch out for to avoid being in the situation where you need washing machine repair.
Some signs that you need a washer repair are more obvious than others. Keep reading to learn five common washing machine issues that mean you need to call an appliance repair company.
Is your washing machine making noises that are not the norm? You'll hear vibrations from your washing machine, but if it starts making more significant noise that includes screeching and clunking, you may have an issue.
Sometimes this happens if the washer is not sitting level or the clothes are unbalanced in the machine, but other times the ball bearings might be rusting or failing to move the drum or tub properly. It could also be a worn-out belt or broken couplers.
This usually means there's a problem with the drain hose. If the drain hose is not working with the drain pump to siphon the water out of the drum of your machine, the water will not drain.
Maybe the drain hose has a kink or is disconnected from the drain pipe. There might also be a clog in the line.
If the wash cycle is complete and your clothes are still soaking wet, it's probably not spinning properly. When a washer is spinning as it should, it squeezes out the excess water so your clothes are ready to go in the dryer.
First, try redistributing your clothing in the dryer to see if that helps. Also, check that the washer is level. If it's not either of these things and there's no blockage in the drain hose, you should call a repair person.
First, check your power source and circuit breaker if you experienced a power outage. Next check that the door is closed or check the door switch. Your washer may stop if it's too full as well.
If it's none of these things, it could be a problem with the motor.
Is the washer filling with water but not agitating? Agitation is the motion necessary to clean the clothing. If the machine sounds normal but the agitator isn't moving, the cogs may be worn down or broken and in need of replacement.
Now that you know the signs that washer repair service is imminent, you'll be able to get someone out to take a look at your washier to avoid going without one for any length of time.
